Our 5 Favorite Dog Walks

As winter starts to give way to spring we are feeling the itch to be outside more. No one appreciates that desire more than our pups. What better excuse to get some fresh air is there than a dog walk. The Prairie Creek Inn and the Rocky Mountain House area have many different walking options for you and Fido. Here are our favorite 5!

  1. Crimson Lake Provincial Trail – 20 mins North of The Prairie Creek Inn you will find Crimson Lake Provincial Park. It features a 10.1 kilometre path called Amerada Trail. It loops around the lake and passes through boreal forests and gives you peekaboo views of the lake. You and your dog can cool off with dip in the lake afterwards.
  2. Twin Lake Trail – Twin Lake Trail is another option beside Crimson Lake which features a 4.3 kilometer lightly trafficked trail that is good for all skill levels.
  3. Bicentennial Trail – The Bicentennial Trail connects Rocky Mountain House with the National Historic Site. The 5 kilometre trail passes through farm fields and boreal forest on the banks of the North Saskatchewan River. Park near the Water Treatment Plant on Hwy. 11A and walk or ride under the bridge to find the trailhead.
  4. Rocky Mountain House Multipurpose Trail – Rocky Mountain House has a popular 5.6 kilometre paved multipurpose trail that loops through residential and commercial parts of Town. You can access the trail from the Helen Hunley Memorial Park adjacent to the Museum and Visitor’s Centre, or at any point along the route.
  5. Our Property! You’ll often see a couple strolling up and down our tree lined drive way but don’t forget to walk the old horse trail beside the creek too. And if your feeling more adventurous we have 160 acres of field and forest to explore. The only trails are set by the deer but if you in the mood for some bush waking head NW between the Owl’s and Birchside Cottages, find the old road and follow it into the goats pasture, at the top of the ridge head SW through the field and turn right when you hit The Prairie Creek Highway and loop down to our tree lined drive way.

If your looking for more options or longer hikes check out the David Thompson Country website for lots of trial options in and around the area.
